Chennai-based BGR Tech Limited has partnered with South Korea’s Elchemtech Co., Ltd. to introduce proton exchange membrane water electrolyser (PEMWE) technology in India, marking a strategic step towards self-reliance in green hydrogen production.
Under this collaboration, BGR Tech will integrate Elchemtech’s PEMWE stacks into its balance-of-plant (BoP) systems for green hydrogen projects across the country. The companies are also evaluating the feasibility of manufacturing or assembling these electrolysers in India, aligning with the “Make in India” initiative to boost domestic production capabilities.
Elchemtech, a specialist in electrochemical materials and devices, offers PEMWE technology with a single stack capacity of 240 normal cubic metres per hour (Nm³/h) or 1.25 MW. BGR Tech’s BoP integration will include ultrapure water treatment, gas separation, and hydrogen purification within modular skid-based systems, ensuring a scalable and efficient green hydrogen production process.
Further strengthening its portfolio, BGR Tech launched a 100 kW hydrogen purification system in February 2025, capable of delivering 99.999% pure, fuel cell-grade hydrogen. Designed for high-pressure operations up to 30 bar, the system caters to fuel cells, combustion engines, and industrial applications such as steel annealing.
This partnership not only accelerates India’s transition towards a robust green hydrogen infrastructure but also paves the way for localised production of advanced electrolysers, reducing reliance on imports and fostering a sustainable hydrogen economy.
