Indian Railways is set to launch its first hydrogen-powered train, marking a shift towards green transportation. Manufactured by Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the hydrogen train will support zero-carbon emission goals. The Ministry of Railways allocated ₹2,800 crore in FY 2023-24 to develop 35 hydrogen fuel cell-based trains. The first unit has been assigned to the Northern Railway’s Delhi Division and is expected to operate on the 89-km Jind-Sonipat section. The trainset is likely to be rolled out this month.
